

Phil was born in Portland, ME on April 16, 1947 a son of the late Philip J. & Marion T. (Stanhope) Coffin. He grew up in North Yarmouth, attending local area schools and graduating from Greeley High School in 1967.
He went to work in the family business, PJ Coffin & Sons at age fourteen and worked his way to Master Plumber before retiring from the business in the early 1980’s. From there he went to work for GE, Bath Iron Works, Airtemp, Warren Mechanical and NPI and then went on to obtain his CNA certificate and worked in the health field until his retirement in 2000.
Phil was a member of the Odd Fellows in Portland as well as the Oil Burners Association. In his spare time he enjoyed mushroom hunting and was taught by Sam Ristich, and was mentioned in his book. Not only did he hunt and sell mushrooms, but he was also the man to see if you wanted Fiddleheads.
He was also an animal lover and greatly enjoyed the company of his elders. He also was a beloved family man, who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons Philip J. “PJ” Coffin and his wife Ginger and Joshua T. Coffin and his wife Erin both of Westbrook, a step daughter Carrie Welsch also of Westbrook and a step son Chris Nute of Casco. He also leaves twelve grandchildren Valerie, Shane, Shannon, Shelby, Sammy, Bailey, Olivia, Rylieh, Desiree, Christopher, Mckenzie and Taryn as well as two great grandchildren, Travis and Blazen, three brothers Gary Coffin and his wife Elizabeth of Rumford, Frank Coffin and his wife Dorothy and Raymond Coffin and his wife Laurie both of North Yarmouth, a sister Kathleen Coffin-Eaton also of North Yarmouth and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Francis Coffin of Errol, NH.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 3 p.m. at the North Yarmouth Congregational Church, 3 Gray Road North Yarmouth. Celebration of Life Supper to follow, please bring your favorite dish to share.
