

He was born in Bangor, Maine June 16, 1927 with Cerebral Palsy a son of the late
Harry L. and Ruth Marie (Banghart) Greenleaf. Ray attended local schools graduation from Deering High school in 1947. He went to Northeastern School of Accounting, Portland graduating in 1949.
During 1950-1952 he operated “Ray’s Rug Shop” 35 Hillis St., Portland. During 1952-1978 Ray was employed as an inventory clerk at Maine Correctional Center, So. Windham, ME and retired after 26 years in 1978.
Ray was a member of the Maine State Employees Retirement Association, Central Square Baptist Church and the Jeannette Mc Donald fan club. In 1954 he was the co-organizer of Maine’s first Cerebral Palsy Adult group…: CP Adult Group of Southern Maine.” During the next two decades he held all offices. For several years he was also on the State Board of United Cerebral Palsy of Maine, Inc.
Ray collected genealogy, loved old movies, semi classical music and old cars! He also loved to write. In 1948 he was author of a brochure, Handbook on Hammer Throwing. In 1956 he was Tri- author of a statistical handbook on Hammer Throwing. He wrote his autobiography, which is at the Windham Historical Society. He wrote several letters to the editor, which was published. He always skimmed three News papers a day. Raymond had cerebral Palsy from birth yet was still able to ride a bike, drive a car and work until retirement.
He is survived by nieces, Julie Herdacher from Leeds, ME and Kathy Gray from Mammoth, ME and many good friends
A memorial service will be held May 8, 2013, 10:30 A.M. at Deering Community Church (formally called Central Square Baptist Church) 4 Brentwood Ave. (corner of Stevens Ave.,) Portland, ME.
