He was born on October 23, 1929 in Gray, ME to the late John Anderson and Ruth (Eldridge) Morrill. He was the younger of two boys, his brother being John Anderson Morrill Jr. He attended schools in Gray and was in Freeport where he joined the Navy.
He married Elizabeth Meier and raised two children and after being discharged from the Navy he held numerous jobs, mostly electrical work. A few years after Elizabeth died he was doing construction work when he came across his High School Sweetheart, Doris O’Brian, and they married and shared seven years before Doris passed.
He also worked a list of other jobs, not limited to lobstering, road construction restaurant owner, mechanic, electrician, truck driver, ordained minister, private investigator, security, race car driver, wrecher service and pilot…needless to say he was a “Jack of all Trades”. He mostly like being self-employed and even though he held many different jobs his main goal was always to make sure the family was taken care of.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the 40 & 8th and probably other organizations along the way. He also supported Boys Town and ASPCA.
In his younger days he liked to have fun in any way it came along. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and also served as a Maine Guide; anyone who met him would say he was a storyteller and a character.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cindy Gallant of Jackman and Susan Keltner and her husband Bill of Freeport, four grandchildren, Michelle Mushero, Joseph Tupper, Harmony Keltner/Nelson and Ivan Robert Keltner. He also leaves six great grandchildren, one who was born shortly after his passing and one great grandchild on the way. He also had an “adopted by love” sister Roland Emerson.
There will be a celebration of life at the American Legion, 15 Lewiston Road, Gray at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2013. All are welcome to honor and to tell of their encounters and funny stories for all to enjoy.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to Boys Town, ASPCA, or any veteran’s organization of your choice.
