
Roberta was born in North Perry, Maine on July 4, 1926 to Effie Loring and Milard Silas Wentworth. She grew up in Maine living in Portland and Pembroke.
When Roberta was young she waitressed in: Southwest Harbor, North Conway, NH and in South Carolina. She later worked for many years in Portland at the New England Telephone Company as a switchboard operator.
She married Simon Berenson, DDS in 1963 in Portland and they were together for 44 years before his death in 2007. She and Simon lived in Portland enjoying summers at their cottage at Higgins Beach. They later moved to Sarasota, Florida where they spent many happy years together.
Roberta was an avid reader and instilled that love of reading in family members. She loved the ocean, enjoying her time at Higgins Beach and Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida. She spent endless hours watching the wildlife and birds from the lanai of her Florida home.
She traveled to many parts of the world including Europe, Morocco, Russia in the late 1980s, and Alaska to name a few. Roberta was creative person, she enjoyed painting with watercolor and acrylics. She dressed with a great sense of style. She had a keen intuition and was an excellent judge of character. One of Roberta’s most memorable personality traits was her wonderfully dry, Downeast sense of humor.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Simon Berenson, her sisters Myrtle Gosselin-Delaney, Pauline Burns, and Jane Kahler and two nieces. She is survived by her son Jeffery Berenson and his wife Stephanie of Milford, MA; daughter Karen Berenson of Scarborough, ME; and three grandchildren; Tonya Berenson and husband David Bedoya of Somerville, MA, Gregory Berenson of Milford, MA; and Jessica Clickner and her husband Ben of Uxbridge, MA. Roberta had three great grandsons who brought her great joy: Leo and Samuel Bedoya and Cameron Clickner. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Roberta was a life-long animal lover and always had beloved dogs or cats, or both, throughout her life.
