Auburn, ME – Ruth Ann Doak, 65, of Lewiston passed away from a brief battle with lung cancer on November 11, 2021

Born September 19, 1956 to Howard A Stuart Jr and Janette E (Morrill) Stuart in Portland, ME. She was the third of six children. She grew up in Portland, married and had two daughters, moving to Rockland ME. After a tumultuous marriage, divorce and reconciliations, she was proud to be independent and single. As a young mother, she studied hard to earn her GED providing an example to her girls. She worked in various industries, grocery cashier, crossing guard, housekeeping, secretarial and food processing. Her true vocation was being a caregiver. She was there for all of her grandchildren as well as some of her great nephews and nieces, ensuring safe and loving childcare.

She was predeceased by both her parents and her youngest sister, Beverly J Splude.

She was an avid reader with her favorite author being Stephen King, loved to watch and collect horror movies, listen to music with a preference of the classic rock genre, both run and shop at yard sales, and play card and board games. She had a green thumb and loved animals, feeding the squirrels and chipmunks outside her apartment.

She did struggle with mental health. With medical treatment, Ruth was living her best life as a senior citizen. A recent move back to her favorite apartment complex allowed her to continue being independent, play cards with her friends and shop for her movie and music collection. She would encourage you to reach out for help, Maine Crisis Hotline 1-888-568-1112 if you are struggling. You are not alone.

She leaves behind daughter Rhonda Pooler & husband John Pooler Jr of Auburn, Rhoda Preston & husband Steven Preston Jr of Westbrook; grandchildren Arianna Doak, Raelynn Ridgell & fiancé Isaac Clark, Jamison Pooler & wife Taylor Pooler, Jacob Pooler, Steven Preston III, and Chelsea Preston; great grandchildren Alexa Pellicciotti, Ivy Pitts, Paisley Clark and Hope Pitts; brother Frederick Stuart & wife Bea of Westbrook; sisters Judie Elwell of Portland, Marilyn Preston & husband Larry of Portland, and Belinda Stuart & fiancé George Doak of Windham; along with numerous nephews and nieces; life long friends Peggie Sanborn and Melanie Cleaves; close friend and support during her illness, Sandra Higgins.

A special thank you to the staff at CMMC in Lewiston, Bolster Heights in Auburn as well as Androscoggin Hospice for the care given during her very rapid decline. The respect and dignity made the hospice journey easier.

We will be celebrating our beloved Mom and Nannie, sharing memories on November 28, 2021 from 1pm to 4pm at Keeley’s Banquet Center, 178 Warren Ave in Portland ME. Light refreshments will be provided and all are encouraged to wear blue, her favorite color.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services 999 Forest Ave, Ste. 1 Portland, ME 04103 in Ruth’s name would be appreciated by the family to care for private burial in 2022.
