Portland - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sharon Phillips, 50, who passed away on June 26, 2026, in Portland. Sharon was born on November 22, 1975, as the daughter of Eddie and Thursa Phillips.
Sharon grew up in Raymond and Westbrook, and like her father, was a graduate of Westbrook High School. Her family was very involved in harness horse racing and owned at least two horses, Sharwin Win Only and Miss Shar Ann, who were named after her. As a child, she enjoyed spending lots of time with her parents and their horses at Scarborough Downs and travelling the Maine fair circuit. When Sharon was old enough, her father would let her sit in the sulky cart so she could help him jog their horses around the racetrack. Her love of horses continued after high school as she attended the State University of New York at Morrisville for the Equine Racing Management Program. Returning to Maine after college, Sharon worked in the Lakes Region and Portland area in the hospitality field, including Point Sebago Resort and Marriott Hotels.
Sharon was an avid fan of the Westbrook High School basketball teams and enjoyed hockey events in the Portland area with her family for many years. Throughout her life, Sharon enjoyed many road trips with her parents to visit her grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles in Maine, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Virginia Beach. Making whoopie pies with her aunt Renee during their Virginia Beach trips was something she always looked forward to.
Sharon will be missed by her aunts, Martha Dean (Charles) of Hampden, Renee Julian (Robert) of Virginia Beach, Jane Jordan (Richard) of New Britain, CT, and Kathy Phillips of Windham; cousins, Susan Black (Christopher) of Gray, Jamie Everett (JJ) of Florida, Karen Phillips Potter of Windham, Heather Silverstein (Michael) of Concord, NH, Polie Mallar of North Carolina, Crystal and Jeremy Whitney of Hampden, Linda Esposito of New Britain, Lisa Rosado (Ivan) of Connecticut, Michael Gooch of Machias, John Gooch of Manchester, NH, Jeffrey Julian of Virginia, and several other cousins, family members, and friends.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Thursa and Eddie Phillips; her aunts, Helen Gooch, Eleanor Grant, and Carolyn Leavitt; her uncles, Paul Phillips, Keith Leavitt, Winfield Grant, Clifton McCaleb, and Jerrold Gooch; and her cousins, David Phillips, Ryan Fogg, Heidi Grant, Bobby Mallar, and Bobby Julian.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends at Woodlawn Cemetery, 380 Stroudwater St. Westbrook ME, on Friday August 21, 2026, at 10am
