It is with Great sorrow to announce the passing of our beautiful, loving, caring Mother and grandmother, Shirley May Murphy. Passed away on Monday February 3, 2020 at 1:00 am at the age of 87, in her sleep at the Barron Center in Portland, Maine.
Shirley’s husband of 39 years Francis E. Murphy predeceased her on Feb. 18, 1995
Shirley was born on 8/06/1932 in Lewiston, Me to Fredrick E Thompson and Nettie Mable (Greene) Thompson. Shirley went to school in Lewiston until the age of 14, due to a bad accident. Time passed and her family moved to Portland where Shirley then went to work at Mercy Hospital, Maine Medical Center, and many other odd jobs until she met Francis (Frank) Murphy. They married and Shirley then became a homemaker. Shirley loved to play Bingo and having coffee with her neighbors, spending time with her family and friends.
Shirley and Francis had four children together. Debra A. Priest of Portland, Patrick F. Murphy of Portland, Dianna M. Fournier, and her husband Tom Fournier of Rumford, Patricia E. May and Rick Vaughan of Mexico, ME, Grandchildren Danielle Trask and ex-husband William Trask of Portland, Mandy Priest and Jake Fournier of Lewiston Tasha Morton of Rumford, Me Adreienne Priest and James Alley of Westbrook Christy Bates and husband Shannon Bates of Rumford, Mary Ann Fournier of Rumford, Thomas Fournier Jr. of Rumford, John May of Mexico, Me. Ian May of Norway, and Cheyanne may of Rumford. Great grandchildren, Miranda Goff and husband Jason Goff of Standish, Me. Anthony Trask of Westbrook, Shannon Morton of Rumford, Aleah Trask of Portland, Marino Morton of Rumford, Makayla Leighton of Peru, Me Damien Burgess of Palmyra, Damien Alley of Westbrook, Madison Pelletier of Rumford, Jase Fournier of Lewiston, Scarlett Pingree of Rumford and a great, great granddaughter Riley Goff of Standish , ME. Shirley also left behind two cousins Janet Parker and Virginia Harvey of South Portland, ME and extended family of New Hampshire.
Shirley was predeceased by her sister Evelynn L. Thompson of Portland and son in law E. Scott May of Sanford, Me. Shirley enjoyed getting out and she touched the hearts of all that knew her One of the many organizations she loved was the Root Cellar of Portland.
Services will be held on Saturday May 30, 2020 at 10:00am at the Wilde Memorial Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave. Portland, ME. Interment will follow, family and friends are invited to the Woodfords Club, 179 Woodford Street Portland, ME, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
