Steven James Evans was born in Biddeford, Maine to Elena Dawne Evans and Danny “Big Danny” Bernier Sr in the Spring. Much like the springtime, Steven was full of life, hope, and growth. The youngest of 5 siblings, Steven kept everyone on their toes with nary a dull moment. He was a gregarious child, making new friends like it was the easiest thing in the world to do, always up to any adventure or exploration. As a teen, he developed a deep love for music of all genres. As a self-taught guitarist and a heck of a storyteller, he could amuse for hours. He learned construction while attending Future Builders and continued to do work in the trade for many years.
Steven learned at too young of an age about how unfair life can be. Despite the many obstacles presented to him, he always had a glass half full mentality and a kind or encouraging word for others. However, it wasn’t long before Steven began using substances as a coping mechanism causing him some rough times.
The birth of his first child, a son, in 2013 was a turning point for Steven; forcing him to take a hard look at himself and his choices. The son was followed by a daughter the following year, which further encouraged Steven to work on changing his habits. After all the soul-searching Steven chose to make the hardest decision a man can make and terminated his parental rights to both children. This was a decision Steven made from the utmost love and deep desire to ensure they had the best life possible. Despite terminating those rights, his love for them both never ceased growing. He continued to follow their life and progress doing his best by them every day.
Steven was predeceased by both his father in 2010 and mother in 2020. It was after the loss of his mother that Steven began to truly turn his life around. Those around him began to see all that life, hope, and growth radiate from him again. For the first time in his life, he voluntarily went to rehab. He began making plans for his future. Steven was fortunate to find employment that suited him perfectly at Jiffy Lube in Biddeford, Maine where he quickly became one of the team. Steven learned almost immediately that he had a passion for mechanics, diving deep into all he could learn to expand his knowledge on the subject.
During his time off, he enjoyed spending it in Steep Falls, Maine with family.
There he was able to spend time with his son, Jason, who was adopted by his brother Scott and his wife Danielle. During this time, he was able to walk Jason to the bus, teach him to catch and throw a football, kick a soccer ball, and roughhouse with the best of ‘em. They were able to forge a relationship that Jason will remember fondly. This had encouraged Steven to work on building a similar bond with his daughter Mya, however his life was cut short before that could come to fruition.
Steven is survived by his biological children Jason and Mya. His partner of many years and the mother of his children, Tisha Brennan of Biddeford, Maine and her son (whom he treated as his own) Augustus Brennan Emerson; sister Danielle Bernier and her fiancé, Sean Ready, of Biddeford, Maine and their children Chris, Cameron, and Jack; sister Angie (Bernier) Collard and her husband Garron of Biddeford, Maine and their children Cali and Damian; brother Danny Bernier of Biddeford, Maine and his son Maverick; and his brother Scott Skillin and his wife Danielle of Steep Falls, Maine and their children Kyler, Eric, and Jason. As well as so many beloved extended family members from Maine to Tennessee.
There will be a celebration of life for him in Biddeford with more information to come.
