Ursula was born in Keswick, England on July 15, 1929 to Harold Wilberforce and Margaret Burgess Howe (neé Dell). Ursula attended St. Anne’s College at Oxford University and The London School of Economics. In 1957, she came to America, where she met Lee Stanley Baier, who she married on June 13, 1959.
Ursula was a life-long lover of all animals, especially horses. Her passions also included history, architecture, and old houses. She was devoted to her volunteer work at many organizations, including Greater Portland Landmarks, The North Yarmouth Historical Society, St. Bartholomew’s Church, and Skyline Farm. In 2013, Ursula was named North Yarmouth’s Citizen of the Year.
She is survived by her two sons, Matthew and Simon.
A memorial service celebrating Ursula’s life will be held at 10am on Saturday, February 15 at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 396 Gilman Road, Yarmouth, Maine.
