Billy graduated from Portland High School and worked for 23 years at CVS on Congress Street.
He also worked proudly alongside his father on the family rental properties. A jack of all trades, Billy installed tile floors, suspended ceilings, and painted apartments.
Look up the word BRAVE in the dictionary and you SHOULD see Billy’s picture. Why? Because he faced the invisible burden of mental illness throughout his adult life with great courage.
During his last seven years here on Earth, Billy lived with the quiet challenges of dementia.
Fear not, because this is where Billy achieved his highest quality of life!
At Pinnacle Health and Rehab in South Portland, the staff and residents surrounded him with love, humor, and exceptional care. In this secure environment, Billy was able to blossom. He enjoyed being around staff, making them laugh, and lighting up the room with his smile. He met his very best friend, Donnie Sawyer, who, along with his sweet partner, Darlene, took Billy on rides and sat with him during the Wednesday music concerts at Pinnacle.
Billy is predeceased by his parents, John J. Joyce Sr., Helen F. Savage and his brother, John J. Joyce, Jr.
He is survived by four sisters; Helen Aylward, Judy Vaillancourt, Barbara Bonetti, and Patty Joyce.
