Scarborough – After a long and courageous battle with kidney disease William (Allen) Meserve passed away August 8th 2012 at the Gosnell Hospice house in Scarborough with his wife by his side. His final hours were peaceful and pain free.
Allen was born in Portland on July 29, 1940, the son of Cora and William Meserve Sr. He was full of spunk and very well known for his talkative nature. Allen had a heart of gold and would often go out of his way to help others. He enjoyed his dogs Gizmo and Snoopy and was caught all the time feeding them from his dinner plate. If he ate it, so did they.
Allen and Linda Camped at Wassampski Springs Campground as Seasonal Campers from 1971-2011.
He started his career in metal recycling at the early age of 12 by pushing a baby carriage through the streets of Portland. He spent time in construction operating heavy equipment as well as driving tractor trailers but his true passion has always been “junking”. He worked in Silvers junk Yard for a number of years. It was not uncommon for him to pull over on the side of the road and have you get out to pick up a piece of “junk” or a returnable can. He collected returnable’s until he had $500.00 or more to cash in which never took him long. Another collection he enjoyed was salt n pepper shakers, which he had over 4,000 sets.
He was an avid racing fan. He raced at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for many years.
He continued attending the races on Saturday night’s right up until a few weeks ago with his grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting Loudon in both July and September. Allen’s most memorable time attending a NASCAR race was in 2007 when he went to the Bud shoot-out in Daytona. And he got to ride in a real Nascar at the Richard Petty Driving Experience while there.
Allen was predeceased by his daughter Sabrina Meserve, his granddaughter Sarina Towle, 3 brothers Philip Jenkins, Jerry Meserve, Larry Meserve and both of his parents.
He is survived by his wife Linda Meserve-Dagnese, 3 sons Bill Meserve of Limington, Ricky Meserve of Westbrook, Bill Dagnese of Windham, 2 daughters Loralee Meserve of Standish and Tricia Dagnese of Scarborough. 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A sister, Wilhelmina Wood of Florida and 3 brothers, Kirk Meserve of Tennessee, John Meserve of California, Roger Meserve of Portland and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many friends.
