Louise Frances Jakshe

Louise was born on January 16,1926 in Durango, Colorado to Louis and Steffa Jakshe. She was a strong, independent woman who lived her life with purpose and determination. She had a wonderful sense of adventure and remained active throughout her life.

Louise became a registered nurse after earning her nursing degree from the Seton School of Nursing in Colorado Springs in July of 1947. In 1949 she answered another calling and joined the United States Navy. She served her country for an impressive 22 years, 8 months, and 5 days, retiring in 1971 with the rank of Commander.

After retiring from the Navy, Louise returned to Pueblo and found another way to serve others. She earned her master's degree in nursing through the University of Colorado Outreach program and went on to teach nursing at PCC and the university. She not only cared for her patients but also helped prepare and inspire the nurses who would care for others in the years to come.

But Louise’s life was about so much more than her career and accomplishments. She knew how to enjoy life. She loved skiing and staying active, and exercise remained an important part of her daily life. She treasured trips to the beach with her family and enjoyed gathering with friends for a game of bridge. She especially enjoyed the simple pleasures of being outdoors, including picking chokecherries and making jelly from them. These memories, her lasting gift to all of us, will bring a smile when we think of her.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Steffa Jakshe; her sister, Rose Hutchison and her brother, James Jakshe.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley Culig, along with her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, who were fortunate to have Louise as part of their lives.

She served her country, cared for others, nurtured, friendships, and made memories with her family. She was strong, capable, independent, and very much her own person.

Louise will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished by the family and friends whose life she touched.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Meadows Catholic Church, 23 Starling Dr, Pueblo, on September 10, 2026, at 10:00am.

Interment will follow at Imperial Memorial Gardens Funeral, Cremation & Cemetery, 5450 CO-78, Pueblo, CO 81005.
