Ronald “Ron” Leon Stacy, age 79, of Raleigh, NC, went peacefully in his sleep on October 11, 2019 at the home. Ron was born in Bland County Virginia on September 18, 1940 to the late Ronald Alfredrick and Dorothy Looney Stacy.
Growing up in Virginia, Ron learned the fundamentals of hunting, fishing, a strong work ethic and God’s word. Before he started school, he spent most of his days at his maternal grandmother’s following his brother Donald on adventures that would sometimes get them into trouble. Then he started school which so happened to be on one side of his home. His first school was a one room chicken house that went thru 1st and 2nd grades. There was no running water, cows were kept in the school yard and there was one light bulb in the middle of the room. There were two teachers there and they would take turns teaching class due to one side of the room was first graders and the other side second graders. His next school was elementary that taught 3rd through 7th grades. That school happened to be on the other side of his home. After 7th grade he went to Rocky Gap Senior High School which went 8th through 11th grade. While in high school he played Junior Varsity basketball. After he graduated from Rocky Gap, he went to work for National Linen Service that was located in Bluefield Va. He worked with them until his parents moved to Roanoke Virginia. He moved with his parents and soon found a job with Winn Dixie Inc. He worked for Winn Dixie until he was transferred to Raleigh NC in 1962.
It was this move that made it possible for him to meet the love of his life. Ron met Judy Avent the first week of December 1962, and their love grew from there. Ron and Judy married on August 4th, 1963 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church; they were married for 56 years. On October 24th, 1969, Ron and Judy were blessed when their son was born. For 30 + years, Ron worked as a Market Manager, an office worker in the Meat department at the warehouse, in the advertising department running a printing press and before his retirement, in the mail room. After his retirement from Winn Dixie Inc of Raleigh, Ron started his second career as a transporter for the different car dealerships in Raleigh, mainly for Leith Automotive. He drove cars until his health got to the point he could no longer drive. Even though he had health issues, it did not deter him from his enjoyment of hunting and fishing.
Ron is survived by Judy A. Stacy (of the home), James “Jimmy” Stacy of Raleigh, his brother Donald W. Stacy (Peggy) of Atkins, Va, sister-in-law Bertie A. Woodall of Zebulon and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special dear friends.
Funeral services will be on October 16, 2019 at Trinity Baptist Church on 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609, presided over by Dr. Jeffrey Roberts. The family visitation will be at 1pm, services at 2pm and interment will be at 3:45pm at Pine Ridge Baptist Church located at 874 Pine Ridge Road, Zebulon, NC 27597.
Judy and Jimmy would like to thank Ron’s doctors at Duke Raleigh, Dr. Mark Leithe and Dr. Madhvi Thakkar and his endocrinologist Dr. Susan Spratt. They would also like to thank Dr. David Millward, who was Ron’s primary care doctor for many years before he retired. And lastly, they would like to give a special “thanks” to the staff of Transitions Life Care. They were attentive to Ron and the family’s needs for the last seven months of his life.
