Dee Roy Campbell, 94, died peacefully on June 8, 2021 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, N.C. She was born on April 10, 1927 in Raleigh and was the daughter of the late Charlie Ethel Woolard Roy and Edward Henry Roy. She was predeceased by her husband Daniel Graham Campbell and her son, always affectionately known as "Little Bill."
Dee was a registered nurse and received her education at a pediatric hospital in Okeechobee, Florida. She once said her first patient was her maternal grandmother, whom she helped take care of one summer when she was 12 years old and sent to be with during her grandmother’s last illness. Her vocation to serve and care for others became a life-long passion and she worked in doctors’ offices, hospitals, and, for several years in retirement, as a visiting member care volunteer for First Presbyterian Church in downtown Raleigh.
Dee comes from a large and close family. She is survived by her brother Donald Henry Roy (Elaine) and her sister Jenny Lind Roy Styons. She was predeceased by her brother Ronald Charlie Roy (and Kay) and sister Pattie Roy Harry. Nieces are Linda Harry Harris (John) and Margaret Roy Herring. Great-nieces are sisters Grace and Katelyn Herring. Nephews are David Harry (Christine), Edward Roy and Ronald C. Roy, Jr. (Rhonda). Great nephews are Henry Roy, and John Price Harris (Meredith) and their children, great-great-niece Elle and g-g-nephew John Harris.
A graveside service to celebrate Dee’s life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612. Arrangements are in the care of Brown-Wynn Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609.
