To family and friends alike. Alex always greeted me with a smile.  He was a hard worker and so proud of his ability to provide for his family.   He was surrounded by people whom loved and respected him.  I was amongst those.  Carlton would tell me about how gentle Alex was and how he was always willing to be on the short side of the situation taking the least amount and always giving more.  Carlton would also tell me about how Alex would eat the same meat sandwich each day.  He was a friend and will be missed.  Our memories will live on as shall the love we share. I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of dear Alex a gentle, warm and loving friend and hairdresser for over 20 years.

I always enjoyed our time together, it was more than just a haircut with Alex.  Hours and hours of great conversations.  Paula and I are deeply saddened, our prayers are with your family.  Rest in peace my friend.

I am extremely saddened by the loss of Alex. Alex has been my hairdresser for over 20 years! The last time I saw Alex was on Jan 26th. He was in good spirits, shopping with his wife at BJ's. I gave him a big hug. Now I know that this was our goodbye hug. When I learned that he has passed away, I was in shock. Alex was a great man, a great hairdresser, and a wonderful friend. I have been so shocked to hear of the passing of Alex. It was so sudden and so unexpected. I started going to Alex for haircuts a few years ago after asking a friend who did her hair.  It always looked amazing!  I loved Alex from the first time I met him and I loved how he was such a perfectionist and would not let you out of his chair until everything was just right and he knew I was happy.  The conversations we had over the years were always so interesting.  How he came to America with his family was always fasinating to me and so brave.  One thing I knew for sure, he loved his family and always spoke so lovingly and with such pride about them.  He was a hardworking man and I told him numerous times to take more time off and relax!  The weekend recently when we had all the ice and snow, I was out of town and I realized I had not rescheduled my upcoming appointment.  That weekend I had a dream aboht Alex.  He was casually sitting back and telling me that I better call and reschedule that appointment.  When I did get back in town and had the opportunity to call, he was not taking any more appointments.  I don't know what I would've said to him if I had been able to see him, but I would've been able to receive one of his great hugs and said "see you soon".  I will miss you Alex as well as so many others.  May your family find comfort and peace through our God Almughty, our Maker, our Comforter and the one who gives us peace in times such as these.  He will be with you all as you grieve. My love goes out to all of you and Alex, I will forever miss you, your friendship, your kindness and all the things that made you who you were to me and so many others.  Rest in peace and we will meet again.

Alex had been my mother's hair stylist prior to her death and mine for 15+ years.  I will never forget how attentive he was to her after she developed Alzheimer's in the final years of her life.  He exercised great patience with me as well, as I always insisted that my haircut make me look 10 years younger and 10 pounds lighter. He tried so very hard to please everyone.  Alex was a dear sweet man and a lovely person.  It is an honor to have known him.  Rest in peace my friend.  Sarah Edwards

"One of my favorite people died on Sunday. I've had the same hair dresser since I was 5 and he's shared with me some of the most incredible stories I know. Originally born in the Ukraine, he came to the U.S. with literally nothing in hopes to start a new life with his family. If there's a man who has faced adversity, it's Alex. I've never met someone who has come so far from so little. I can't imagine what it's going to be like to sit down in a different chair and not know what to say. There's a story behind every chair I guess..and in this case, I'm so happy I got to know the man behind it.  Alex, it's been such a privilege to have shared your company for the last sixteen years. I will truly miss you. And all your wonderful stories."

 I remember meeting Alex and his family when they first arrived in Raleigh at a mutual friends home. I remember him showing us his hair cutting tools. I think they were in a wooden box.  He has been cutting my hair for many years. I will miss him greatly. You have my deepest condolences.

Still shocked since hearing the news of Alex's passing. He was the kindest most humble man you would ever meet. A professional, hardworking, and talented stylist. Loved his stories and insight, and especially when he spoke of his family that he was so proud of. Alex was loved and respected by all that knew him and will be truly missed. I will never forget him and wish I could have had one more of his genuine heartfelt hugs! No more pain...RIP my friend.

Alex will be missed by many people..I have known him for only nine short years but he will hold a special place in my heart.  Over the years I never left his shop without him telling me to call him if I had any problems with my hair, that always made me smile because I knew it would never look as good as when I left him .  I loved to hear the stories of life in Russia when he was learning to cut hair; he would light up when he talked about it and also when he talked about his wonderful family.   It was my privilege to have known him, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

I am so sorry to hear this terrible news. Alex has been cutting my hair for 25 years.After this many years I feel like I know the family. Alex was the hardest working person I have ever known.  I will truly miss his stories about everything from his life in Russia to his visits with his now deceased mother and the last few years, his latest love, Emma. I never left his shop without a hug.  Rest in peace my dear friend and may your family find peace in knowing how much they were loved.

A few years ago a friend suggested this Russian guy for a haircut.  That suggestion carried on for several years.  Our conversations thoughtfully covered many topics, foreign and domestic and always with wisdom from Alex.   We drove each other crazy with scheduling but I will always consider Alex a friend.  Rest in peace Alex the world has lost a good soul and the afterlife gained a champion    You are in a far better place where the fishing is easy and the catch bountiful.

I would like to offer my hear-felt condolences to his family.  I first met Alex over 20 years ago when he was working at HairCrafters on Litchford Rd. shortly after I moved to Raleigh and was looking for someone to cut my hair.    I feel blessed to have known him all this time.  He was more than a barber to me but also someone I considered a friend.  He was a very kind, hard working, and talented person.  I will treasure the many conversations we had over the years about things like fishing, his Russian heritage, family, politics, and life in general.  Rest in peace Alex, I am going to miss you.

He didn't fulfill the American dream, he fulfilled everyone's dream. He had successful business, a loving family, and I am proud to call him my friend. Like a lot of other people, I will truly miss my friend.

My neighbor introduced me to Alex 15 years ago and he cut my hair ever since. I saw him in December and as always he had good spirit. He was always so kind and a complimentary.  I never thought that my reminder phone call for my next appointment was to announce me this unexpected sad news.  Alex you will be miss. I offer my deepest sympathy to his entire family.

I met Alex back in 2000 and since then he was my barber. We spoke about everything and Russian issues: Cosmonauts, and all the USSR leaders  great conversations.  I will miss him. Him and I were born the same year 6 months difference  ,,, Nasdarovje Alex for an early departure.

It is with much sadness that I learned of Alex's passing!!  I, like so many others, always enjoyed my visits with him at Image By Design.  He was such a delight to be around. My wife, Pat, introduced me to Alex. Initially, I was a little skidish about visiting a salon, but Alex always booked me early in the AM, which allowed us to talk about carp fishing, the Ukraine, his experiences when he arrived in this country and human values.  I always looked forward to seeing and talking with this interesting and wonderful individual, but even more after traveling from Chicago to have Alex whip me into shape.  I can only imagine how much his family and friends miss his presence.  I wish for Alex that his best fishing days are ahead.  And, I truly enjoyed my brief opportunity to know this brave soul who embraced America and his adopted country.  May God Bless Alex!

Alex was not only my hairstylist for many years, he was one of the finest men I've ever known. He was extremely talented, kind, hardworking, and loved his family well. He always had a funny story or a little joke to share, along with a good ear for listening. As much as I loved Alex, my hairstylist, I will miss him even more as a friend and someone I respected. I wish I had hugged him tighter the last time I saw him. My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy is with the family.

Back in 1992, I complimented a friend's haircut and asked her who had cut it. She replied "a Russian guy at Haircrafters on Litchford Rd."...and so I went there. Ever since my first haircut with him, Alex became my once-a-month haircutter, and also that of my husband, children, and in-laws. He started out as our stylist, but became a good friend. None of us ever left his chair without being completely satisfied, as he was a perfectionist. He was also one of the kindest and most patient individuals we ever knew. Since moving away from Raleigh in 2014, we have missed Alex and Image By Design more than we can say. We will miss him even more now, but he will always remain in our prayers and close to our hearts. May he rest in peace.

Kind, hardworking, resourceful, generous -- Alex was a constant for me over the past 15 years and I cannot imagine him not being beside that chair. What a gift to have made a meaningful and profound connection to so many people, in such a subtle and gracious way. Peace and comfort to the Khodush family. We worked with Alex for several years and were always so impressed with his determination and hard working attitude. He loved his family so much and wanted to give them everything. Our family is terribly sad at the loss of Alex.  I knew him from Image by Design although he didn't cut my hair; he was always so kind to all his customers.  He has been cutting my husband and son's hair for about 20 years and after every visit they would comment on the great discussions they had with Alex.  He was one of the most kind, hardworking people; a gentleman and a gentle man.  I hope his family will find comfort in the memories he has left with so many people.  He will be truly missed.

I will miss Alex terribly. Such an amazing person. I loved hearing all of his stories over the years sitting in his chair--so many fascinating stories about coming to America. His first Fourth of July party in NC in a wool suit. "I was like a polar bear in Africa!" he would say. Alex was so much more than a phenomenal hair stylist. He was a philosopher--at least that's how I saw him. So insightful. He had a unique way of looking at life that most of us can't see. And he had a great sense of humor. I always left his salon with a smile on my face and a story to savor. We have all lost an incredible person.

My Dearest Alex you have been my hairdresser for more than 20 years since we moved from Scotland.  You have been my friend, a confidant to myself, my wife Trish and son Andrew.  You were refreshingly non PC, grumpy, a curmudgeon, honest, opinionated, a professional, with an amazing work ethic, kind and very thoughtful.  You always spoke kindly and lovingly about your family.  I am glad we spent time two weeks past with many hugs.  I will miss you my dear Alex. Extremely sad. One of the most kind and hard working people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.  Alex cut my hair for the better part of 20 years. He basically watched me grow up.  In my adult life, he was very simply one of my favorite people.  I wish his family the deepest of condolences.  Haircuts just won't be the same anymore....

How do you say, "you will be missed" and not shed a tear !  Alex was a dear friend as well as my hairdresser for 19 years.  We shared many experiences throughout the years, from the time he and his family became US citizens thru the birth of his first grandchild.  Alex was always concerned for my welfare after my husband's death; asking how are you.  I will really miss him as a special friend and the best hairdresser-perfectionist I have ever had the pleasure to have known.  Rest in peace and in God's arms.

I knew Alex for 15 years. He was a very special person. If you knew him you were fortunate.  He was warm and very kind and always greeted me with an enthusiastic smile. I especially loved when he would share his insights on life.  As a small example:  He would tell me, when I didn't know how to cut my hair: "don't worry, it's only hair, and it will always grow back!" I will never forget Alex, and I will always miss him.  I'm so very sad to hear of his passing. He was always so kind to me, and he always make me feel better after my appointment with him, especially when I was down.
