

Alice R. Ehrlich, known artist and teacher of Raleigh, died on January 13, 2011 peacefully at Mayview Convalescent Center. Alice was born in Beaufort, SC but moved as a child with her family to Raleigh NC where she had made her home ever since. She was the daughter of the late Israel Rubenstein and Esther Marcus Rubenstein. She was a graduate of Meredith College with a major in Art and had studied at UNC-Greensboro, at UNC-Chapel Hill and at the Art Students league in New York. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Little Book Club, Raleigh Artists’ Guild, Wake County Arts Society, and the Water Color Society of NC.
Alice taught Art at Needham Broughton High School for twenty-three years, briefly at Charles B. Aycock School in Greensboro, Fred Olds School, Meredith College and also at NC State University. Her own work as a painter was exhibited at the Horace Williams House Museum of Arts’ in Chapel Hill and is in the Permanent Collection at the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh, she has also exhibited at the Weatherspoon Gallery in Greensboro, and with the Fine Arts Society in Raleigh. Alice was also known for her published articles on painting and art education in professional art journals.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Martin Ehrlich, her brother, Max Rubenstein of Augusta, GA and her sister, Ida Rubenstein of Raleigh, NC.
Graveside services will be held at the Raleigh Hebrew Cemetery on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at 2:30 pm.
