I was so sad to hear of Allen’s passing. He was a joy to work with in Physical Therapy and always worked hard. I thoroughly enjoyed talking to him and sharing life stories and keeping him up to date on current events. We shared similar feelings regarding the world today and he often made me feel better despite the terrible state of affairs. The world lost an incredible human being and I am honored to have known him and called him a friend.

I was saddened to hear that Allen died. He was definitely one of the good guys. I met him when I was working at the Board of Education and the Department of Community Colleges. He was so helpful and really made dealing with a personnel department easier.
Smart, friendly, always willing to help out and handsome too. These words describe Allen to a "T". I am lucky to have known him.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family now. Heaven just got a good guy.

I am so sorry to hear of Allen's passing. He was the most pleasant person and always a friendly ear with sound advice. I learned so much from Allen over the years as our paths crossed through the many departments in state government. I will always remember Allen's endless level of energy. We once ran in a 5K and he was good at that too. I think of Allen and can't help but smile. My regards to his family and the many friends, several of whom I know on these postings, as we ALL adjust to this loss. Rest in peace, my friend.

My condolences to Horace and the Rogers Family.
I will always think of Allen with fond memories. While working together at OSP, I found him to be a great friend. He was my go-to person for anything I wanted to or needed to know about state government. I’m sure he tired of me knocking on his door, but he was always welcoming, no matter what I was quizzing him about. I always thought he should have been a politician because he knew just about everybody in Wake County, and the people he didn’t know he would make up a story about them just to make you laugh. All that knew Allen will miss him. May he rest in peace.

Allen became my mentor in 1992. I was an HR intern with NC Dept. of Administration. He encouraged and challenged me with work assignments even though I had no experience. He recommended me for other internships while I finished my degree, helping me gain experience that allowed me to become employed in a permanent position. He continued to support me as my career began and was always there for me. We laughed at so many things together and built a relationship that I will always cherish. I was telling a few coworkers about Allen just this past week. Although it has been a few years since I talked to him, the positive impact he has had on me and my career continues to resonate.

There are those among us who leave the world a better place than they found it. They do so with their thoughtful consideration of others, their kindness, and their forgiveness when we might fall short of expectations. Allen was such a person. I am deeply saddened to learn that he has left us, but there is comfort knowing that he is safe and in God's keeping. He leaves many, many friends who loved him and will never forget him. . . for the personal birthday notes he wrote to the monogrammed shirts he wore. Jim and I are thinking of you, Horace, and know that you will find blessings and comfort knowing that Allen was so admired and respected by those fortunate enough to count him as a friend and colleague.

Oh how grateful and blessed I have been to have had Allen as a beloved friend for so many years. He was a dedicated individual you could always depend on to be there for and with you throughout what life had to give us. He was probably one of the very first individuals I had the pleasure to become friends with when I first was employed with the state some 50 years ago. Not only did we work together, we ran together, laughed, shared life experiences, and one thing he would always call me over all these years. When everyone referred to me as Gene, he calling to me and then would laughing say Eugene. That special touch will always be cherished. Horace, words cannot express my deepest sorry in this time. You know you both have been extremely special to myself as well as David. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of Allen’s family

I will miss him. Horace, I was so glad I was able to go out to lunch with you and Allen not too long ago. I think everyone that ever knew him will miss him so much.

Allen was a dear friend to me in my years working at the General Assembly. I can honestly say that I never heard and angry or unkind word leave his lips in the whole time I knew him. He had the gift of encouragement and helping, and always went the extra mile to make time to help anyone.
I am a better person for having had Allen as a friend.

Dear Horace, my love, thoughts, and prayers are with you at this sad, sad time. Allen is so very much a part of all the wonderful memories I have of working with the Great State of North Carolina! We laughed and laughed and had so much fun over the years both in and outside of work. Remember when I jumped in the bathtub to get away from the dog that I was sure was gonna eat me alive?!!! When we went to the Hollerin' Contest in Spivey's Corner?!!! And all the delicious suppers at Side Street?!!! He will be missed. I did love him. He was one of the best men I have ever known and was a master at making everybody he met feel special. He always made me feel special.
