Art was born in Maspeth Queens, New York on January 28, 1931. He graduated from the prestigious Brooklyn Technical High School, which he attended on scholarship. Following graduation, Art went to work with Scovill-Schrader, where he began as a tool designer for aerosol products.
After two years with Scovill, Art was drafted and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Corporal. While on leave, Art went home to propose to Claire Taillon, and once returning to civilian life and his job at Scovill, Art and Claire were married on June 5, 1954.
Art eventually worked his way up to become the Scovill Operations Manager for four US plants. After leaving Scovill, he went to work for the Business/Industry Development Division for the North Carolina Department of Commerce. In this role, he worked to recruit and locate businesses that created thousands of jobs for North Carolinians. His industrial clients included Caterpillar and Outboard Marine Corporation, among others.
Art was preceded in death by his loving wife Claire in 2015 after 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his sister Dorothy (Jack), his sons Arthur Jr (Lisa) and Thomas (Sammie), daughter Sharon, grandchildren Adam Brummer and Abigail Sturgill (Ian), numerous nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
