Audrey Lucille Brittain Casper was born October 19, 1926 in Beeville, TX and was raised in Corpus Christi, TX. On July 12, 1947 she married James Hardy Casper and subsequently moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she resided the rest of her life. She was the mother of three children, and had seven grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
Audrey’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She had a magnet on her refrigerator that stated, “Grandma’s the name, spoilin’s the game,” and that pretty much summed it up! She had a great sense of humor, especially with children, and really enjoyed spending quality time with them.
In addition to doting on her grandchildren, Audrey loved to work, garden, read, and shop. She began her professional career a little later than most people–in her fifties. She had a strong work ethic and loved her job as an accounting clerk for the NC Department of Corrections, where she worked until she finally decided that it was time to retire when she turned 80.
As a gardener, she was known for growing cucumbers, peppers, and the most delicious tomatoes! In addition to vegetables, she maintained an immaculate yard, which was known by many locals as “the golf course yard”.
When she wasn’t working or gardening, she often went shopping. She mostly shopped for gifts and items for her family, and she couldn’t resist a good sale. Audrey got so much joy from giving to the ones she loved and was generous to a fault.
Audrey showed everyone in her life what it meant to care for others through her actions, generosity, and selfless nature. She will be greatly missed.
