Barrie Keith Husch
July 5, 1952 – October 13, 2021
Barrie Keith Husch, 69, of Raleigh, NC, returned to his heavenly home on October 13, 2021. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage, unwavering faith and perseverance in facing life challenges. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
He was born to parents Clifford R. Husch and Garnelle Vaughan Husch on July 5, 1952, in St. Louis, Missouri. Barrie was the youngest of two sons and graduated from Columbia High School. His most beloved adolescent memories were with the Belleville Black Knights Drum and Bugle Corps from 1965 to 1973. During that time, he also met the love of his life, Carol Lasslo, and married her on March 1,1979. Carol and Barrie were married for 42 years.
Barrie was known for his musical talents, both in band and choir; and his volunteerism, raising thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society, going on several mission trips and being an active board member for the Raleigh Moravian Church. He also loved to build things: from model railroading, to cornhole boards and scenery for the church’s putz. After 28 years at IBM, Barrie retired, bought an RV and traveled all over the US with his wife and dogs, something he had always hoped to do.
Along with his loving wife, Carol, Barrie is survived by his daughter Lindsay and husband Michael; his son Zachary and wife Kelsey; his beautiful granddaughter, Ariya; his brother Dennis and wife Nancy; and his special loving cousins, Greg Williams and Theresa Hamlin.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27601 followed by an outdoor reception at Pavilion #4 at Pullen Park 520 Ashe Ave. Raleigh 27606. Please note that the graveside service is also outdoors and will be about 30 minutes and those attending will have to stand. Covid-19 protocols will be enforced at both the graveside service and reception; and, at the request of the family, only those who are vaccinated, feeling well, and accept social distancing should attend. Thus, please wear a mask except when eating or in close proximity to those “inside of your bubble.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Raleigh Moravian Church, 1816 Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to Oakwood Cemetery on his behalf. And, as Barrie would have wanted, please do not dwell on his passing but celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. He is at peace in the more immediate presence of his Lord and savior.
