

Charles Ronald (Ron) Williams, Sr., of Raleigh (formerly of Laurinburg), went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh NC following complications resulting from a recent fall. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 35 years, Libby Williams and his mother, Martha R. Williams of their home in Raleigh; his two sons, C. Ron Williams, Jr. of Raleigh; David E. Dunn, IV and wife Joanna of Ahoskie, NC, his beloved grandchildren, C. R. “Wood” Williams, III of Raleigh, Chloe Winston Dunn and D. E. “Finn” Dunn, V of Ahoskie, NC and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, B. D. Williams of Laurinburg.
PaPa, as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren will be greatly missed for his constant doting over them and their allegiance to the Wolfpack red.
Ron worked in the insurance industry for 45 years where his areas of service covered the east coast to Texas and where he received many accolades and achievement awards throughout his career. He served his country in the US Army and was a Viet Nam veteran. He was educated at Wingate College and UNC-Pembroke and at his beloved NC State University in Raleigh where he was a long standing member, supporter and fan of the NC State Wolfpack and of the Wolfpack Club.
Ron was an avid golfer having founded the CRW Invitational Golf Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC which he hosted for 35 years until he relinquished his post in 2010. He was a member of North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh where he served as President of the Mens’ Golf Association and a member of The Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach, SC. Along with his love for Wolfpack sports and his love of golf, he was a life long fan of the Detroit Tigers baseball team.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC and another in Laurinburg, NC at a later date.
