She was born in Newark, NJ on September 24, 1929 and was the youngest daughter of Rose Moschowitz Schuster and Abraham Schuster She was a long time resident of the Trenton, NJ/Yardley, PA area before moving to Raleigh in 2000 to be closer to her grandchildren.
Dorothy was an avid student and aspiring opera singer who graduated from Weequahic High in Newark in January 1947. Unable to afford college, she went to work in the retail business, eventually becoming a buyer and assistant store manager for Bamberger’s, a large department store chain in the New Jersey area. She was “tres chic” and taught herself to sew many of the glamorous outfits she saw on her New York buying expeditions. She met the love of her life, Warren Zorn, on a blind date set up by her sister and married him 7 months later on June 14, 1959. She retired from Bamberger’s soon after to throw herself enthusiastically into raising a family.
Dorothy was active in various PTAs, clubs and was President of the Har Sinai Temple Sisterhood in Trenton. After her husband became ill in 1980, she went back to work as a bank teller and then as a secretary for the synagogue. She was an excellent cook, showering those she loved with abundant and delicious dinners, cookouts and desserts. She was also an accomplished seamstress, sewing fine tailored suits, as well as any Halloween or Purim costume her children or grandchildren desired! Dorothy loved doing crafts of any kind and was rarely without a book nearby. She loved meeting new people and continually learning new things. She took pride in treating everyone with kindness and respect and instilled those values in her own children. She loved unconditionally and with every breath of her being.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren.
