Edith Ann Midyette Hoggard, 75, of Raleigh NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 21, 2022. Mrs. Hoggard was born September 30, 1946, to the late Howell Lee and Ruby Hunter Midyette in San Diego County, CA. She married the late John R Hoggard Jr. on July 3, 1965, at Grove Park Baptist Church in Portsmouth VA. She was preceded in death by sister Deborah “Debbie” Sue Midyette, brother David Lee Midyette, and brother-in-law Delbert “Dell” Chambers.
Mrs. Hoggard graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach VA. She was a proud employee of NASA for 26 years both in Washington DC and Cape Kennedy FL. She worked various other jobs including being a legal secretary and a Title I teacher. She taught Sunday School for middle school girls and was a deaconess at Salem Baptist Church in VA. She enjoyed telling many stories that her children and grandchildren remember fondly, especially how she and John Jr. met at the wedding of their respective cousins.
Mrs. Hoggard is survived by her son John R Hoggard III; her daughter Melanie L Ragsdale (Michael “Rags”), grandchildren Shenandoah “Shay” C Ragsdale, Jake H Ragsdale, Brandie L Ragsdale, and Victoria “Tori” R Ragsdale, great-granddaughter Harper Sue Ragsdale; Sisters Mary Jo Chambers and Priscilla “Cill” Gusler; and 6 nieces and nephews and their respective spouses and children.
Family and friends will be remembering Mrs. Hoggard’s life at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home located at 1701 E. Millbrook Rd. Raleigh NC on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 1:00 pm. There will be a private interment at Raleigh Memorial Gardens. The family requests that in remembrance of Mrs. Hoggard’s life, instead of flowers, please donate to one of the following charities: Lewy Body Dementia Assoc., American Cancer Assoc., or the American Diabetes Assoc.
