Edna Irene Thompson

God welcomed home His beloved daughter, Edna Irene Owens Thompson, age 100, on January 2, 2014 at the Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center-Raleigh. A native of Louisiana, she moved to Raleigh in June 2002 due to failing health.

Mrs. Thompson lovingly reared three children in a home where the “welcome mat” was always out. She served her husband of 60 years, James Hardie Thompson, as a helpmate in his school photography business for many years. A born leader she served her church and community in various capacities.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Thompson Jones (Dale) of Raleigh and daughter-in-law, "Tip" Thompson of Lake Charles, LA, grandchildren, James, John and David Thompson and Loree Bordelon of Baton Rouge, LA, Vanessa Thompson of Myrtle Beach, SC, Terry Thompson of Jennings, LA, Judy Norwood and Joanna Thompson of Lake Charles, LA, Paula Jones and Larry Jones of Raleigh, 19 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, 2 great-great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Sid and Ethel Owens, her husband, James Hardie Thompson, Sr., sons, James Hardie Thompson, Jr. and Jerry Owens Thompson, daughter-in-law, Geraldine Thompson, granddaughters, Claire Irene Thompson and Leigh Anne Jones Williams, grandson, Glen Owens Thompson, and her three brothers and six sisters.

A memorial service will be held in the Chapel of Crossroads Fellowship, 2721 Millbrook Road at 7:00 PM on Monday, January 6th with visitation 5-7 PM preceding the service.

Funeral and burial will be in Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Crossroads Fellowship, 2721 Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27604 or to the Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center Activity Department, 4210 Lake Boone Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607.
