Elaine Wheeler

Elaine is a graduate of Westinghouse Memorial High School in Wilmerding, PA. She attended McKeesporte Nursing School. Elaine married the love of her life Vernon C. Wheeler on April 23, 1962 in Cumberland, MD. Elaine was a “Helper Spirit” always willing to help anyone even a stranger. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by everyone blessed to have known her.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Vernon C. Wheeler; son, V. David Wheeler; daughter, Celeste Huffstutler and husband Miles, III; grandchildren, Miles Huffstutler, IV and Gabby Huffstutler and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC 27609. The family will receive friends starting at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the funeral service at Raleigh Memorial Park.

The beginning too

This multi colored carpet

That is mostly blue

Contains my dust

Thirty year old dust

Blues swirl around head

Like a cool drink

I feel the music that was played here

It is amongst the dust that draws me

My mother

Sleeps above

Like the warmth of a quilt

Made by ancestors

I have never met

Her hands shaped me

With an artists precision

I here her voice

Echo in this room; this house

When I am at the end of the world

I don’t need her as I once did

For the black and white of it all

Need her more

As concrete and confidant

These colors can only be felt

Warm and flowing

This spring of life

Emits words that sometimes only matter

Because they roll through the air

From her breath

I breathe with my ears

Hold until my brain turns blue

The carpet dust is in my soul

Like the woman who sleeps upstairs

I carry it in my skin and heart; this dust

Like I tote the words

I have both within me but

Still come home for a taste
