Elizabeth was born in Fort Jennings, Ohio on September 28, 1934, the daughter of Harold and Gertrude Miehls. Elizabeth and her two sisters grew up on a family farm in rural northwestern Ohio. It was an adventurous and loving childhood surrounded by friends and family. After high school graduation she went to Saint Rita’s nursing school in Saint Louis. Before she began her nursing career, she and her closest friends began their three-month journey across Europe.
After returning to Lima and nursing, she met the love of her life, Harold Gray. They raised a loving and free-spirited family of three boys and a girl. Their life was filled with warmth and endless adventures. Elizabeth said on many occasions that she could write a book titled Emergency Rooms I Have Known.
Elizabeth was a resilient woman who met life’s challenges head on. She was joyful and loving and took a sincere interest in just about everyone she met. She was insightful and observant. She had a quiet wisdom and a sharp wit. She loved gardening, NC pottery, and bird watching. She was caring and supportive with an unwavering faith - a long time member of Saint Raphael Catholic Church. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, surrounded by laughter and lively conversation.
Elizabeth Gray left a lasting impression on those she touched. She will be sorely missed and never forgotten.
She is survived by three sons David A. Gray (Kam) of Gresham Oregon, Jonathan M. Gray (Marie) of Chicago Illinois, Andrew B. Gray (Michelle) of Ashland Virginia, and a daughter Julia Gray Rucci (Scott) of Raleigh North Carolina. She has three grandsons, three great grandsons, and two great granddaughters. Her sister, Joann German, currently resides in Avon Lake, Ohio. She is predeceased by her husband, Harold Gray, and sister Patricia Duncan.
