Faye Dillard Rehberg
October 29, 1934 – November 20, 2021
Faye Dillard Rehberg, born on October 29, 1932 in Warrenton, North Carolina to the late Leon Dillard and the late Sue Dillard Felts, passed away at age 87 on November 20, 2021 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Faye is preceded in death by her loving husband, Riley Rehberg, and is survived by her daughter, Sharon Lubbers; her grandson, Payne Lubbers; her sister, Ann Hoover (Bud) and her nephews, David Hoover and Chris Hoover.
Growing up in a tight-knit household, Faye learned the value of family from a young age. She spent her early years in Warrenton, where she attended John Graham High School, and subsequently graduated from Louisburg College. She then met and married George Bright, who sadly passed before their daughter, Sharon, was born. Faye and her mother later moved to Raleigh, where she began a thirty-five-year career as an accountant with the N.C. Department of Natural Resources and Community Development. In Raleigh, a new family next door brought along the love of her life, Riley, and following an introduction by their mothers, the two shared fifty-five happy years of marriage until his passing in 2018.
Faye had a passion for arts and crafts, with a particular talent for sewing, cross-stitching and crocheting; her hand-crafted quilts and blankets adorn both her house and those of her loved ones, and she was more than happy to give a quick repair to a torn pair of pants, too. Always the caregiver, she also enjoyed watching after and spoiling her beloved grand-dogs, Maggie and Duke. Faye spent many weekends basking in the shade of the porch at the lake house she and Riley built, a place that became a cherished getaway spot not just for them, but also their extended friends and family.
Never one to draw attention to herself, Faye will be remembered for how invested she was in the lives of those around her. She made it a point to go to every one of her grandson’s major life events, up to his college graduation barely a month prior to her passing. But beyond her unassuming and tenderhearted demeanor, Faye also loved a good time, especially in the company of her daughter Sharon. The two shared many fond memories in Faye’s later years, from concerts to vacations, and even a fun-filled trip to Nashville, Tennessee just over a week ago.
