Felix Tomei, III, died on July 7, 2014 following years of declining health. He was born in Chicago, IL on May 12, 1931. Fee graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL, Yale University in 1952 with a B.S. in Industrial Administration and Harvard University in 1954 with an M.B.A. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 through 1957, when he was honorably discharged as a lieutenant after serving two tours of duty in the South Pacific. Thereafter, Fee spent his entire career as a marketing professional in the power tool industry with Skil Corp., Robert Bosch Corp. and Trumpf Inc.

Fee met his wife, Margaret, in Athens, GA while attending the Naval Supply School at the University of Georgia. After marrying in 1956, they lived in Coronado, CA; Evanston, IL; Syracuse, NY; Walton-On-The-Thames, England; Franklin Lakes, NY; Naperville, IL; New Bern, NC and Burlington, CT.

In 1994, Fee and Margaret retired to Callawassie Island, SC and later, to Blowing Rock, NC, as well. In 2006, they moved to Raleigh to be closer to some of their children and grandchildren.

Felix was predeceased by his parents, Felix Tomei, Jr., and Hortense Ruth (“Jimmie”) Schurman, and by his brother, Peter Andrew Tomei. Felix is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Stanley Tomei, and by his children (spouse), Thomas Tomei (Karen) of Naperville, IL; David Tomei of Sanford, NC; Mary Anderson (Dale) of Woodruff, WI; John Tomei (Marilyn) of Raleigh, NC; Joseph Tomei (Edith) of Dublin, OH; and Maggie Tomei (Charles Boyer) of Raleigh, NC. He is survived by his eight grandchildren: Melissa Tomei (Mark), Kelli Maestro (Joe), Jason Anderson, Helen Anderson, Mimi Tomei, Andrew Tomei, Amelia Tomei, Joey Tomei, and by his great-granddaughter, Elara Tomei. He is also survived by his sister, Mira Lee Loran, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Fee was known for his calm and quiet demeanor; but had a very quick wit and a wonderfully dry sense of humor. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid reader. Most of all, he was a devoted husband and father. The family would like to extend their appreciation for the compassionate treatment received from his caregivers at Sunrise of North Hills, Transitions Lifecare and Home Care Assistance of Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 as follows: a visitation in the atrium at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC beginning at 10 AM, with a funeral Mass to immediately follow at 11 AM, with interment at St. Raphael’s Columbarium immediately following the Mass.

I first met Mr. Tomei in the mid 80's when he and Mrs. Tomei were visiting their children in Chapel Hill. Joe and Maggie, and I believe John, were all enrolled at UNC at the time. Joe and I had become good friends and Maggie and I were becoming pals as well. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to visit with Felix and Margaret in their homes in Connecticut and the Carolina's, and to get to know their other children and meet their grandchildren (a top notch group of human beings). During those visits and other more brief meetings, I witnessed the fine qualities and virtues which have been attested to previously in this guest book, so eloquently at his funeral by sons Joe and Tom, and in many private conversations over the past few days. What I remembered, as I was driving to St. Raphael's Friday morning, was that when Mr. Tomei greeted me wether in his home or elsewhere, it was always genuine and warm, and with no hint of distraction. I imagine he has been greeted likewise in the home of his maker.

For the Tomei family, I pray that when struck by sadness and heartache, comfort and solace will quickly follow.

We are so sorry to hear about my Uncle Fee's death. As a child I remember thinking of him as a soft spoken, kind and funny person.
Now with an adult perspective, I would say he was the epitome of success both in his professional life in business and personal life with his wonderful family. Like his parents and his sister, my mother, he was a model of integrity.
Our prayers to all of the Tomei's,
Julie Theisen, Tim and Felice
