Geoffrey received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree (a five-year professional program) from North Carolina State University's School of Design and maintained a private practice in Raleigh for several decades.
Among his projects were Eastgate Park and Quail Corners Shopping Center in Raleigh and Sailors' Snug Harbor ( a retirement community for Merchant Marines), which relocated from Staten Island, New York, to Sea Level, North Carolina.
His community activities include serving on the Wake County Planning Board and the Wake County Soil and Water Conservation Board.
Geoffrey was an avid sailor and spent many happy hours racing (and winning!) his San Juan 24 as a member of the Blackbeard Sailing Club in New Bern.
Geoffrey was predeceased by his parents, A.W. McLean and Serene T. McLean, and a brother, Arch McLean. He is survived by Patricia McLean, companion and caregiver; his sisters Cynthia McLean of Georgetown, S.C., and Nancy Jenkins (Tyke) of Charlotte, N.C., and their families.
Geoffrey was fortunate to have a lot of friends and fond memories of shared adventures and good times. He especially cherished the friendships formed in elementary school and continue to this day.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, at 11:30 AM, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh. Burial will be at Montlawn Memorial Park at 2:00 PM.
