He was born June 12, 1932, in Mecklenburg County, NC, to the late Bartley M. Starnes, Sr. and Julia B. Starnes.
George served his country in the U. S. Army. He was a Past Master of James B. Green, Masonic Lodge AF & AM.
George is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara T. Starnes; his daughter, Joann S. Cotten, and her husband Jerome; his daughter Linda S. Willis, and her husband Mark; and his granddaughters, Abigail Grace Cotten and Ashley Michelle Willis.
A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Rd., Raleigh, NC, 27615, on January 17, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to North Raleigh United Methodist Church in George’s honor.
