Geraldine Randle Liles

Gerry was born in Toledo, Ohio, August 15, 1923, the daughter of Horace DeWitt Randle and Mary (Willie) Mae Hearn. She attended Ellijay High School and graduated Class President in 1944. She also attended Greenleaf Business School in Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, Gerry was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Carl B. Liles; sisters Evelyn Dorsett of Atlanta, GA and Roselle Smith of Buford, GA; brother Robert (Bob) Randle of Murfreesboro, TN; and her son-in-law, Ralph T. Nevils, Jr. of Raleigh, NC.

Gerry is survived by her daughters, Gerry Ann Cheney and husband John Jr. of Cary, NC, Anita Nevils of Raleigh and Carla Torrence and husband James of Hampstead, NC; son Carl B. Liles, Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Euless, TX ; grandchildren Christopher Cheney (Stephanie) , Michael Burgess (Yvonne) , Bryan Cheney (Holland), James Cheney, Cara Riggs (Ivey), Stacy McCloghry (Matt), R.T. Nevils, III (Sherry) and Lisa Marie Gooch (Tommy); and many much loved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

First Baptist Church of Raleigh was their choice for membership when they moved to NC from GA. She loved her Mary Martha Sunday School Class and met her long time friend Edith there. Gerry and Carl enjoyed trips and fellowship with the couples in their Thirty-Niners Club, working with the clothes closet, nursery and serving where they were needed.

Although Gerry did work outside the home living in GA, four children kept her busy at home in NC. She enjoyed sewing beautiful clothes for herself and her girls, crocheting many colorful projects, working in her rose garden, cooking and playing Canasta with Laura and Tom. She made wonderful cakes for neighbors and her church family as well as her family at home. She created many happy memories for everyone who knew her.

A private funeral service for Gerry will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Mausoleum Chapel at Raleigh Memorial Park.
