Harry Walter Metzner of Raleigh, NC, born July 22,1919, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2017. He was born in Dayton, OH and lived in Austin, TX, Inola, OK and Raleigh, NC. He was proud of his service in the Army during World War II, and retired from the National Cash Register Company in Dayton, OH, and the Austin American Statesman. He was a great story-teller and had many adventures in the Army, on vacations, and as a security guard, that he
would often share. He enjoyed spending time at the senior center, planning vacations, shopping for bargains, and watching old western and war movies on TV.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances. He is survived by his son, Matthew B. Metzner and wife, Brenda Metzner; daughters, Karen M. VonBargen and husband, Gary VonBargen, Kay L. Metzner, Barbara L. Franklin and husband, Paul D. Franklin; grandchildren, Erika Kuehnhausen, Rachel VonBargen, Krissi VonBargen, Andrea VonBargen, Courtney Poole, Cody Poole, Drew Franklin, Justin Franklin, Summerlin Franklin, Rheannon Franklin, Shelby Gleadow; and four great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held 1:30pm Saturday, August 12, 2017 at at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, followed by a graveside gathering at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, at 3pm.
