

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith H. Horne; daughter, Nita Horne; son, Rick Horne (Rosemary); and three grandchildren: Melissa, Matthew, and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie and two brothers, Paul and Tom.
In 1943, he joined the US Army serving in the HQ Co. 1142nd Engineer Combat Group. Stationed in Europe, he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant receiving the Bronze Star, EAME Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Following the war, he went to NC State earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Carolina Power & Light Co. for 37 years, retiring in Raleigh in 1987.
In retirement, he and Edith traveled to all 50 states and 6 of the 7 continents. He also enjoyed daylily gardening and photography.
Harvey was active for over 60 years in the Lions Club and served in several leadership postions. He was highly involved in the American Hemerocallis Society, having his daylily garden included on national and regional tours.
A memorial service will be held 3:30pm, Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Hudson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4921 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609.
