

“Red” was born in Granville County to the late U.M. Roberts and Lucye Fowler Roberts. He retired from IBM in 1983, after working for Exxon for 18 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Sallie N. Roberts; sister, Nellye R. Tunstall; and brother, Ira Welford Roberts.
“Red” is survived by his son, Michael G. Roberts and wife, Sharon of Cary; daughter, Vicki Hauser of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Jason Hauser of Raleigh; and Amanda Roberts of Charlotte; and a very special friend and companion, Betty Waters of Raleigh. “Red” felt that he had lived a full, happy life, with a wonderful family that loved each other.
During WWII, he spent 39 months in the US Army Air Corps. He spent two years in overseas duty, in North Africa and India, as an aircraft instrument specialist with the rank of staff sergeant.
His favorite hobbies were traveling and fishing. He enjoyed visiting the 48 states, many times. He also spent many happy hours fishing with his family on trips to Topsail Island which he loved.
He loved his church family, at Longview Baptist Church, where he had been a member for over 60 years. He was a member of the “Old Men’s Class” for many years and was the oldest male member in the church who was able to drive and attend church, which he did faithfully.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Monday, April 1, 2013 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd, Raleigh, NC 27609. Burial will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor. The family will receive friends 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
