Helen Nobles Saucier

Helen Nobles Saucier, 89, of Raleigh died June 8, 2011. She was born in Hackberry, Louisiana on April 6, 1922, to Charles and Allie Portie Nobles. She graduated from Hackberry High School as class valedictorian and then from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, Lafayette, LA in August 1942. Helen taught school during WWII in Urania and Hackberry, LA. She married Walter Joseph Saucier on May 9, 1943 in Chicago, IL. Life took them to Bryan, TX and Norman, OK before arriving in Raleigh in 1969. She was a homemaker, and a nurturing mother. Helen worked for H&R Block, retiring after 15 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Helen is survived by 2 sons, Dr. Gerard T. Saucier, Eugene, OR and Laurence E. Saucier, Jeffersonville, IN; 4 daughters, Susanne C. LeVine, Cornelius, OR, Diane H. Saucier, Denver, CO, Janine S. Wood, Angier, NC and Loraine A. Whitehead, Houston, TX, and daughter-in-law Ana M. Saucier, Walker, LA. sister, Margaret Pitts of Hackberry, LA; She was blessed with 16 grandchildren: Christen McDowell, Matthew Reed, Alex and Thomas Saucier, all of Oregon; April and Adam Saucier, Louisiana; Andrea Gidusko and Rebecca Barham, Colorado; Christopher Wood, Virginia; Emily Whitehead, Celeste and Eddie Saucier, all of Kentucky; Charlotte Frei, Illinois; Sara LeVine, Texas; and Rick and Jason LeVine, California.

Helen is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Walter J. Saucier, on July 17, 2010 and by a son, Walter J. Saucier, Jr. in 2005.

A rosary service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 with visitation following from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Drive, Raleigh, NC 27608. Interment will follow the service at 2:00 p.m. at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2718 Overbrook Drive, Raleigh, North Carolina 27608.
