With heartfelt sorrow and deep gratitude for her remarkable life, we announce the passing of Helen Lowman Wilson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who left us on June 20, 2025 —just shy of her 89th birthday.
Born on July 16, 1936, in Ellijay Georgia to Freeman and Elsie Lowman, Helen was a vibrant, smart, and creative soul whose presence lit up every room. Helen shared her life with her late beloved husband, Ray J Wilson in Woodbridge, Virginia. She loved her many years as a military spouse and was proud of Ray's service to our country. Helen spent many fulfilling years working as a homemaker and a school bus aide to special needs children in Prince William County, Virginia. She loved Christmas, flowers and plants, art and crafting, raising her children, and collecting treasures.
Helen is predeceased by her husband Ray J Wilson (2016) and her brother Harold Lowman (2015). Left to honor her memory are her children Virginia Ashley (Truett), Sandra Wilson (Jerry Jackman), and Leigh Chabreck (James); her grandchildren: Benjamin Ashley, Kevin Chabreck (Lea) and Cara Chabreck (Peter Byrne); and one great-granddaughter Presley Byrne, sisters: Hattie Faye Newberry, Hassie Mae Mooney, and Hangela Lowman; brothers: Hollis Lowman and Hoyle Lowman —all of whom were lights of her life. Helen is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other loved ones, and dear friends.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing Helen is reunited with her loving husband Ray. Helen’s light continues to shine in the lives of those she touched—forever loved, forever missed.
The funeral service for Helen will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. A private burial will take place at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date.
