James (Jimmy) of Raleigh passed away surrounded by his family at Rex Hospital on March 15, following a series of medical setbacks. James was the son of Hugh R. Pearce and Gladys H. Pearce. He also learned to love Betsy Pearce as his step-mother in later years.

His siblings who preceded him in death were: Bobbye Lane Britt, Hugh R. Pearce, Jr., and Jon Pearce. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine. He is also survived by his sons, Gary (Jennifer) and Philip (Susan), both of Raleigh; his sister, Betsy Thomas (Ronald) of Asheville; and sister in law, Lillie of Raleigh. His pride and joy are his grandchildren: Julia, Rebecca, P.J., Andrew and Sadie, who brought him many hours of pleasure. He also has two great granddaughters. He is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was known for and will be remembered for his sense of humor. Oh what tales he could tell! He also cherished many family vacations at the beach.

The family has decided to have a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

"Uncle Jimmy" as he was so fondly called as long as I can remember.
Always seemed happy to see me from my childhood to adult.
He had the time to take his nephews fishing and help foster a passion I still enjoy today. Unfortunately for him he is the one I called one rainy winter night when I found myself in a ditch after running off the road. I thought to myself, "hey, Uncle Jimmy has a scout"! One quick phone call and he was out to come help his soggy nephew out of a jam with no questions. He had such an admirable relationship with Gary and Phillip and he cherished that.
I will miss the conversations and most of all the laughter he
created over the years.
Goodbye Uncle Jimmy and tight lines.
I will miss you!

We are so sorry to hear of Jimmy’s passing . Our thoughts and prayers go out to sweet Geraldine and all of the family.

Jimmy often came to the hospital in Johnson City while Marcus was in ICU..
Even though he didn’t know me ( I was just the girlfriend ) he always managed to slyly slip me a $100
bill. He knew these were trying times. I have never forgotten that act of kindness.

Marcus & Anne Thomas

I am sure Marcus will have some of his own memories to share.
