Jane Voss Van Syoc

December 12, 1918March 17, 2013

Jane Voss Van Syoc, 94, passed away peacefully the morning of March 17, 2013. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Peter and Anna Van Dyke Voss. She married her college sweetheart Orrin Jay Van Syoc who preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by their three children: Pamela Schrader and husband John of Raleigh, Robert Van Syoc and wife, Amy of The Sea Ranch, CA and Rodney Van Syoc and wife, Merrie of Los Altos, CA. She has 6 grandchildren: Michael Schrader; Karen Schrader Arnold, husband, George; Mark Schrader, wife, Kara; Lori Schrader Register, husband, Brian; Jay Van Syoc; William Van Syoc; two great grandchildren, Sara and Hailey, and three great grandchildren on the way.

Jane and Jay were married 45 years. Together they enjoyed traveling with their children, playing bridge, square and ballroom dancing, church activities, and especially being with family and friends having fun. Both taught school after attending Western Michigan University. Jane supported her husband as he went through University of Michigan dental school on the GI bill. Jane loved children and often spent time with her grandchildren – singing, dancing, watching sports, playing games. They loved to be with her too. She also volunteered with Blood Bank, Bronson hospital gift shop, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, Circle activities at St. Mark’s UMC, helping with children at Community Bible Study, gardening, and being with people. She was happy with the many friends she made in her last days at The Heritage of Raleigh.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 1pm followed by the funeral at 2pm at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC, 27609. Burial will be at Pine Forest in Wake Forest after the funeral.

In lieu of flowers donations to St. Mark’s UMC, or Alzheimer’s Association would be welcomed.

Arrangements by Brown-Wynne.

To Rod, Bob, and Pam, my sincere condolences to one of the nicest ladies I've ever met. Growing up in the Milwood neighborhood in the 1960's and 70's, I visited the Van Syoc house many times and Mrs. Van Syoc was always so warm and friendly. Her smile made those visits ones I will always remember. May the countless memories of her long and happy life stay with you forever.

With deepest sympathy. We have very good memories of Aunt Jane. She was an inspiration; always happy, encouraging others, and just fun to be with. It was great to see the pictures, to remind us of all the good times that we had. My thoughts and prayers are with you, may God give you comfort during this difficult time.

What I will remember most about Jane is her joy and warmth. I enjoyed her sense of humor and her sweet spirit. She was a gift to St. Mark's, and I'm so thankful that I had the honor to call her my friend. I'll see you later, Jane. My sympathies to all of Jane's family and friends, I know she is missed by all.

Pam, Bob, Rod and families,
We all have great memories of Jane which no one can take away. We also have the assurance that she is in a much better place, and that she is once again with Jay and her family who had gone on before her. What a time she must be having. May you feel God's peace at this time of sorrow experienced by those of us left behind. Love and miss you all.
