She was born in 1945 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late William and Carrie Murrow and grew up in Jarrettsville, Maryland.
Jan will live on in the hearts and memories of her loving husband, Marty, her son TR and his wife Laura, as well as her son David. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Cameron, Elaina and Liam Buskirk.
She is also survived by her sisters Wilma Murrow and Mary Akers and her husband, Larry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her brother, William Murrow, Jr. predeceased her. The list of devoted friends is long; the effect she had on so many is deep and abiding.
Jan loved to laugh and she never met a stranger. Her favorite role was being a mother and extended that role to most people who knew her. Many benefited from her unconditional love. In her career as a teacher and later as a Manager at both IBM and Cisco, she strived for excellence and took great pleasure in helping others achieve this same goal. She was a mentor in both interpersonal relationships as well as professional life. Jan made many lifelong friends during her career.
Jan’s favorite scriptures were 1 Cor 13 and the 23d Psalm. She had an overriding faith in God's love for all and was a devoted parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi Church for over 20 years.
Service will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Raleigh on Friday, May 4 with viewing from 10:30am through noon followed by a Mass at noon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to Doctors Without Borders or Hospice of Raleigh.
