Jean Clark Ryder

Jean Clark Ryder, 87, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord Wednesday, August 31, 2011. She was at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh when she ended her battle of over a decade with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born in Oak Park, Illinois on November 17, 1923 to Myrtle Essery Clark and Charles Gates Clark. Married for 65 devoted years to Donald Paul Ryder, she is also survived by her children: Jack Warren Ryder of Bryn Mawr, PA; Catherine Ryder Horner and husband David of Raleigh; and Carol Ryder Miller and husband Neil of Charlotte; grandchildren: Christy R. Inners and husband Tim, Suzy R. Townsend and husband Eric, Jeff Horner and wife Elizabeth, Scott Horner and wife Meredith, Jon Horner and wife Meghan, Matt Miller, and Casey Miller; and 5 great-children.

Jean was a loving wife and mother of exceptional gentleness and grace. She was well known at Providence Baptist Church for her sweet service to the women in My Evening Walk Bible Study and her compassionate touch with the home bound in the Eldercare Ministry.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 2, 2011 from 7-9 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held Saturday, September 3 at 10 am at Providence Baptist Church, 6339 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh.
