Jennifer Meckes Christofferson

Scott Dominic and Jennifer Meckes Christofferson – best friends and life partners - passed away on July 4, 2026, in a tragic auto accident.

Jennifer was born on August 20, 1981, in Mineola, New York, to Beatrice and Robert Meckes. She grew up in New Hyde Park, New York, and attended New Hyde Park Memorial High School. While there, she was active with the Romanettes Dance Team, band, and volleyball. She attended Marist University studying psychology and later Springfield College, achieving her Master of Education. Growing up, Jennifer took to her family’s love of music, being active at school playing the flute in ensembles and different band programs. She was a member of Tau Beta Sigma - National Honorary Band Society.

Jennifer moved to North Carolina to explore a new city and job opportunity. She loved her time with her friends and family, walking around local lakes, and volunteering within her profession and college alumni group. Jennifer dedicated her career to working with kids with special needs as an occupational therapist at Duke University Health Systems. She advocated fiercely for all kids. Her kindness and hard work made a lasting impact for so many.

Scott – more famously known to his hometown friends as Scotty – was born December 1, 1977, in Harlan, Iowa, to Duane and Jo Christofferson. He grew up on a farm outside of the small town of Elk Horn, Iowa. He graduated from Elk Horn – Kimballton High School. Scott attended Simpson College, majoring in Biology, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He then attended Drake University, earning his Doctor of Pharmacy (always wondering why people didn’t call him doctor).

Scott moved to North Carolina ready to explore the ocean and beaches. He became an avid scuba diver, traveling the world while picking up photography as a hobby. His beautiful pictures from under the ocean were a point of pride. He passionately cheered for his Iowa Hawkeyes from afar.

Scott worked for nearly 20 years as a clinical pharmacist at UNC Rex. His friends there were such an important part of his adult life, experiencing every high and low.

Scott and Jenn met - the New Yorker and the Iowa Farm boy – and formed a partnership of love, respect, and trust - and the adventures ensued. They were married in Wilmington, North Carolina, on June 20, 2015.

Jenn and Scott loved to root for the Carolina Hurricanes, enjoying games with friends, socializing with coworkers and neighbors, and making trips back to their homes sharing their childhood experiences with each other.

They dreamt of becoming parents, and when Mia – who they called their miracle baby - was born, her middle name had to be Faith. Sweet Mia was the center of their lives. They instilled in her their values of kindness and laughter. The joy she brought to their lives made a life full of love just so much sweeter.

Their family life was deeply rooted in faith. Attending church together and teaching Mia. And boy – did they have a love of adventure. Together and with Mia – Scott and Jenn were driven to see the world. First – as many beaches as possible on the East Coast and the Caribbean. Next came the ski slopes, and finally came the world trips, taking on Europe with their little sidekick. They were on their way to their next big adventure in Norway, Denmark, and Disneyland Paris.

Scott and Jennifer are survived by their sweet angel Mia Faith.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her mother Beatrice Hey Meckes, grandparents Annie and Anton Meckes, and Beatrice and Albert E. Hey, Jr.

Scott is preceded in death by his Grandpa Ras, Grandma Betty, Grandma C, and Grandpa Christofferson.

Jennifer is survived by her father, Robert Meckes and his dear friend Nora Molloy, Aunt Anne and Uncle Charles Niemeth, Godmother Anita Heaton, and cousins Lloyd Hey (Lori), Ken Hey (Julie), and Kristen O'Kelly.

Scott is survived by his father Duane, mother Jo, brother Matthew (Megan), sister Brooke (Jaime), and his uncles and aunts who were such a part of life growing up.

Aunt Jenn and Uncle Scotty are also survived by ten nieces and nephews that adored their silly antics, visits, and stories: Kat, Gabe, Carsten, Bo, Elle, Griffin, Mae, Eve, Ariyah, and Lucia.

Your love for them is evident in every small and big gesture. We see it as a symbol of the lives they lived in their home of Raleigh - bringing kindness and love to everyone they passed. We vow to keep each of those values and memories alive as we wrap our arms around sweet Mia.

We don’t control the length of our days, but we have full say in their depth. May we show up fully, love generously, and never take a single moment for granted.

Visitation will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 600 Walnut St, Cary, NC 27511, US, on July 11, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 pm.

Jenn made this her life career passion - and this cause is especially meaningful to Scott and his family.
