Jerry Payne Fulford, age 76, went home to be with his Savior on June 18, 2018, due to complications from Parkinson’s Disease. Jerry was born May 27, 1942, the son of Delphine and Albert Fulford and grew up in Beaufort, NC. He and his wife Lynda met at East Carolina University where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. They were married in 1964 and lived in Washington, NC, where Jerry taught advanced high school science classes before moving to Virginia. After several years they returned to North Carolina to live in Greenville, where Jerry worked in life insurance and contributed to the community through building relationships and his association with the Kiwanis Club, United Way, and the Boys and Girls Club. They raised two daughters, Darby and Miriam. In 1988, Jerry and Lynda moved back to Carteret County to live on the water in Gloucester, where he enjoyed working outside and taking care of “The Boat”. In 1968, he won the Big Rock Fishing Tournament, reeling in a 538-pound Blue Marlin. Jerry loved living on the water, where he often took his family fishing and to “The Cape” (Cape Lookout). In more recent years, they lived at Indian Beach and fellowshipped with the Church family at Bogue Banks Baptist Church before moving to Raleigh. Though limited in ability, Jerry enjoyed the sports activities of his grandchildren and fellowship with the family of Christ Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Jerry was a man of integrity. He believed in the Truth – the inerrancy and total sufficiency of the Scriptures. In 1999, the Lord called him to teach His Word, which he did faithfully for 13 years. He studied diligently and carefully to present Biblical concepts throughout the Scriptures. He wanted to share what the Lord revealed to him and encouraged others to study God’s Word. He instilled these truths and set a godly example for his daughters and their families, Darby, Darin, Kinsey and Annie McBeath and Miriam, Donnie, Olivia, Samantha, and Rebekah Leshnock.
Jerry loved the Lord with all his heart and he cherished his wife and family. He and Lynda were married 53 years when he moved to the home of his Heavenly Father.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Jerry Fulford to Bogue Banks Baptist Church, PO Box 2988, Atlantic Beach, NC 28512 or Christ Baptist Church Missions Fund, 400 Newton Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.
