Joel was born in Massachusetts and lived in the Boston area until 2018 when he moved to Raleigh, NC to be with family. Joel took pride in his career working for many years in the food service industry prior to retirement.
Joel was preceded in death by his parents the late Nathan & Eva Gelman and his brother Jordan Gelman from the Boston area.
Joel is survived by his sister Ann Simon and husband Paul Simon of Raleigh, niece, Nanci Sturdivant (Danny), nephews Daniel Simon (Lenora) and Eric Simon (Carlena).
His memory will always be cherished by his great nieces, Alyse, Brooke and Greta, great-great nephew and great-great niece Emmett and Delilah along many friends and relatives who will miss him dearly.
Joel never met a stranger and will forever be remembered for his quick warm smile.
