

Funeral service will be held at 11 am on December 28, 2012 at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC. Inurnment will be held at 10 am on December 29, 2012 at the Memorial Garden and Columbarium, St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC.
A native of Malden, Massachusetts, John was the son of the late John Patrick Moylan and Mary Creed Moylan. John graduated from Malden High School and then joined the Navy in 1942 and earned his Navy Wings of Gold as a Naval Aviator at Pensacola, Florida. John earned his Aeronautical Engineering degree from Parks College - St. Louis University in 1953. He began his career at Grumman Aerospace in 1954 where he progressed through a number of senior leadership positions. His teams led the design and development of the crew and cockpit systems for the A-6 Intruder, the F-14 Tomcat and the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM) which was utilized in the Apollo 11 mission, putting the first man on the moon. John retired after 35 years from Grumman Aerospace and retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Lieutenant Commander.
John had many passions in life including his love of flying, working on cars, building houses and motor homing. He especially enjoyed being at the lake house in Maine all the time to sail, fish, swim and water ski – he loved to teach his kids and grandkids how to enjoy everything that life had to offer.
John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Peggy Griggs Moylan and children, Tim, Patti, David, Beth, Susan and John. Additionally there are sixteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. John had four sisters with Grace Mooney as the sole survivor. The Moylan family resided in Huntington, NY for over 25 years.
Friends and family are welcome to join the Visitation from 6 to 9 pm on December 27, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC.
