Julie Sorrells Timmons

June 20, 1966July 28, 2018

Julie Sorrells Timmons, 52 of Wake Forest, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, July 28th, 2018.

Julie was born in Arcadia, Florida on June 20, 1966. After graduating in 1984 from Desoto County High School in Arcadia, Florida, she obtained her BS in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in 1988. She went on to receive a Masters in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 1993 and a nurse anesthesia certificate from the Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia in August 1993. Julie worked at many of the Wake Medical Center facilities as a certified nurse anesthetist but most recently was employed by Capital Surgery Center in Raleigh NC.

Julie is survived by her daughter, Audra Timmons of Wake Forest, NC and her son Keegan Timmons of Jacksonville, NC; 2 sisters, Jane Cline (Adrian) of Arcadia, Florida and Susan Sorrells of Raleigh, NC; 3 nephews, Jonathan Olive, Benjamin Cline and William Cline. Julie was pre-deceased by her parents, Howard and Celia Sorrells.

Julie was a selfless person who valiantly fought inflammatory breast cancer for 12 years. Despite multiple surgeries, scans, radiation, and chemo, she remained positive and hopeful and was an inspiration to many people. She was a dedicated mother, sister and daughter. Her children were her pride and joy and she protected them fiercely and was proud of their accomplishments and the fine young adults they have become. Despite 12 years of constant illness, she worked through it all. Julie loved her 2 dogs, Peaches and Brodie, who were like 2 additional children to her. She was a master at word games and woe to you if you challenged her in such games. Julie was non-judgmental and accepted people as they were and where they were. She loved her work family and her church family and we are all better people for having known her. She will be missed terribly.

A celebration of Julie’s life will be held Saturday, August 4th, 2018 at 2:00pm at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, 8501 Honeycutt Road, Raleigh NC.

Interment will be in the columbarium at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, Raleigh, NC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation www.ibcresearch.org.

I met Julie & worked with her in the NICU at Wake Med in the late '80s, early '90s. And then followed behind her into The Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia. On and off, I guess we worked together a total of about 25yrs. Audra & Keegan - I remember the joy when ya'll were born- you are the same ages as my Will & Owen. I am so very sorry for your loss. Your Mom was a tough cookie- a hard worker and a fighter! I pray that her love and strength, and now peace, will give you some comfort in the time ahead.

Audra, Keegan & Susan,
I JUST saw this obituary and it took my breath away! She was a wonderful person and I grieve with you and for you as you all now travel on your own journey.

I met Julie while working at NRUMC. Even after I left NRUMC, we 'kept up' with each other through Facebook. I have watched her journey through her diagnosis until recently. I was in awe of her positiveness and perseverance through her battle with Breast Cancer. She was a force to be reckoned with.

Her beautiful soul is now with God!

I am so incredibly saddened bye the passing of Julie! I first met her while we were both attending college at the Un of Florida in Gainesville. A few years back I got reacquainted with her through Facebook. I was aware she was battling cancer, but I was convinced bye her Iron will and faith in our lord and savior Jesus Christ, that she was gonna win out! I see now it finally got her, but I am certain Cancer needs a break after battle with Julie!!
Atlast, Heaven gains one more Angel. She made this world a better place. Especially, for her children. RIP my old and dear friend, and prayers for your family. 🙏🙏

Julie and I first met in 1991 when we were interviewing at nurse anesthesia programs in NC. We both entered the Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia in August 1991 and became close friends. We worked together for many years after graduation and shared lots of fun times. Julie was a very strong and brave person. Although she lived with cancer for many years, she remained upbeat and positive. She will truly be missed. Audra, Keegan, Susan, and Jane, my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Julie was my student at Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia/UNCG. She graduated in my second class. I truly enjoyed watching her grow into a wonderful CRNA, and I enjoyed watching her as she matured into a wonderful, strong, loving person. I will miss Julie, but I will always remember her strength, her bravery, and how she loved her children, her family and her friends. I know Julie is better off now and that she is healthy and cancer-free. Although I will remember Julie for many things, I will remember her most for the terrific fight she gave the cancer that finally took her home to her Father. Julie, you are a hero in my eyes.

Keegan and Audra, you have both had the absolute pleasure of having an amazing, strong, and loving Mom. So many people will go through this life never knowing that such love and spirit even exist yet you are blessed to have her always as yours. She will always be missed and loved by so many family and friends, and that speaks volumes about her character as an amazing woman. Aunt Gina and I will always leave the light on and the door open in our home for you at any time. We are here for your both now and always. God bless you both.

I had known Julie for 27 years. She was loving, kind , and quick witted. She was excellent at her profession, but at life as well. She cared for all around her even when she was the one in need. She was a loyal friend and loving mother. Julie your smile and witt will be missed by all that knew you. You can rest in comfort and peace finally reaching your heavenly destination.

We were so sad to hear of the loss of Julie. We were neighbors for many years and we would often hang out in my back yard talking as the kids played on the swing set. She treasured her children and fought for them often. I know she has raised amazing kids. She will forever be in my heart.

I worked with Julie in the Neuro Unit at Wake Med. We were her stepping stone for her before furthering her education. She was always such a positive person - she was always smiling and we had such fun working together. Sending love and hugs to her family.
