Karen was born in Charlotte, NC on October 9, 1962. She graduated from Broughton High School and continued to NC State University, where she pursued an accounting degree.
Karen was with her lifetime partner, Jimmy Williams, for more than 34 years.
Karen is survived by her brother, Grant Nichols; her sisters, Lesa Nichols Sanders and Shanna Nichols Millis; and many nieces and nephews whom she cherished as she helped them grow through the years.
Karen was preceded in death by her life partner, James Williams; father, Kermit Nichols; Mother, Lois Drake Nichols; and her sisters, Nancy Nichols Rinehart and Julie Nichols.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026, at 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5060 Six Forks Rd. in Raleigh, NC, with Bishop Matt Tom officiating.
Visitation will be held before the service, beginning at 9:45 am at the church. Committal with dedication prayer will be given by Jared Nichols at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh, immediately following the service.
The family wishes to thank her oncologist team, nurses, and the staff at Duke Raleigh Cancer Center. They will always be remembered for the great care and compassion they gave to Karen and her family during her illness.
