Born in 1942 in Friona, TX, Karen lived a life of faith, service, and love.
Karen was a dedicated member and volunteer at Crossroads Fellowship, where she found community and fulfillment through helping others. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she cherished traveling to visit family and broaden her horizons. Her deep faith was a guiding light throughout her life, shaping her kind and giving spirit.
Karen shared a special bond with her older sister, Phyllis Johnson, a relationship marked by love, support, and friendship. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Dale Treider. Despite the challenges of a prolonged illness, Karen’s resilient spirit and steadfast faith were her sustaining strength. She always placed the needs of her family and friends above her own.
Karen is survived by her six grandchildren, who brought her joy and pride: Eric Woodruff (Laura), Evan Woodruff, Kallie Young (Joe), Kirk O’Steen (Kathryn), Hannah McDowell, and Bennett McDowell. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Lily and Miles Woodruff, Ian and Elyse Young, and Eliza O’Steen.
A private family service was held to celebrate Karen’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in her memory to the SECU Hospice House of Johnston Health in Smithfield, NC, whose compassionate care provided peace and comfort in her final hours. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers who supported Karen with dignity and love throughout the years.
