

Kathleen Ann Selke, 71, of Raleigh, passed away early Saturday morning, May 22nd, 2021 at Transitions LifeCare of Raleigh. Born April 22nd, 1950, in Detroit, MI, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Allen and Libia Catherine (Bush) Selke. She was a very special independent woman that started working part time while in high school for Saks Fifth Avenue in Detroit and by her early twenties ended up managing the Saks Fifth Avenue store in downtown Detroit while also earning her college degree in merchandizing and retail management. By 25 years old, she was well known for Saks hosting shows for designers such as Oscar De La Renta, Bill Blass, and Pierre Cardin. She was a personal shopper for the late Ms. Aretha Franklin. She eventually managed the Saks Fifth Avenue store in the Somerset Mall in Troy, MI when the downtown Detroit store was closed. Soon after, Kathy was sent to and helped manage the Saks Fifth Avenue store in downtown Chicago on Lake Shore Drive. After retiring from retail, she started a new career in finance and ended up working for many years for Fidelity Investments as a case manager in Raleigh, NC.
Kathy is survived by her siblings: Dave (wife Jan) of Rockledge, FL: Sue of Lansing, MI; Dan of Ponte Vedra, FL; John (wife Julie) of Perrington, MI; Diane of Lansing, MI; Matt of Martin City, MT; and Paul of Wolverine Lake, MI; six nieces (Tami, Erin and Morgan) and nephews (Ryan, Kevin, and Daulton); and one great niece (Caroline), and two great nephews (William and Camden); and many, many cousins especially a special cousin, Jim and his wife Tamra Bush. She is also survived by her beloved Aunt Barbara (Bush) Valauri; and Uncle Richard (Aunt Vera) Selke.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 25th at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, NC. A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. A memorial service and internment will be planned at a future date.
