Born on October 21, 1964, in Lenoir, NC, and raised in Charlotte, NC, Laurie graduated from North Carolina State University with degrees in business and economics. While at NC State, she joined the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, where she met her husband, Fred H. Adams Jr. She went on to earn her MBA from Meredith College while working at Nortel Networks.
Laurie was a member of First Cary United Methodist Church and remained strong in her faith throughout her illness. Diagnosed in 1993, she faced years of surgeries and treatments with remarkable strength and grace. A testament to her courage and fortitude, she refused to let her health challenges define her. Despite many grueling setbacks, Laurie maintained a genuinely positive attitude and a zest for life that inspired everyone around her.
She found great joy in raising her two sons, Tripp and Walker, and was proud to see them earn the rank of Eagle Scout, graduate from college, and marry. In her final days, she met her only grandchild, Maryanna Gray Adams.
Laurie was a devoted NC State fan, regularly attending football and basketball games to cheer on the Wolfpack. She loved dance, tennis, music, trivia, volunteering, and family trips to Emerald Isle.
She is survived by her husband, Frederick H. Adams Jr. of Morrisville, NC; her father, John W. Hamer of Lumberton, NC; her brother, M. Scott Hamer (Rachael) of Acton, MA; her sons, Frederick “Tripp” H. Adams III (Jordan) and their daughter Maryanna of Knightdale, NC, and John Walker Adams (Lindsey) of Wendell, NC. She was preceded in death by her mother, Winona Costello Hamer.
Laurie will be remembered as a wonderful daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the V Foundation, where Laurie volunteered for many years.
