

Raleigh- Leonard Henry Pert, 89, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2010. He was born on July 17, 1921 in Guildford, Surrey, England to his parents the late John Thomas Pert and Maude E. (Holbrook) Pert.
Len started his navel career at the age of 15 ½, as a Merchant Marine Cadet in the Royal Navy. He earned many distinguished awards including a medal of honor from Her Majesty the Queen. Len met the love of his life and sweetheart, Ruth Barrey, and was married on Sept. 15, 1951 at the “Little Church around the Corner” in New York City. Len retired, after 30 years as a Marine superintendent, and enjoyed travelling with Ruth and spending time with his family and friends.
He is lovingly remembered by Ruth, his loving wife of 59 years; dear father to son John Pert and his wife Linda, twin daughters Barbara Tuskowski and her husband Theodore, and Beverly Santhouse and her husband Russell. Loving grandfather to Jennifer Graham (Robert), John Santhouse (Brittany), Ruth Anderson (Justin), Veronika Tuskowski, and Donnita Chamberlain (Monde). Great grandfather to John and Kolton Anderson, Kyler and Kadee Chamberlain.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday October 15th, 2010, at the Chapel of Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm.
